Cingular to Demo Live Video Calls

Cingular Wireless, now part of AT&T, will introduce a service sometime in 2007 that allows subscribers to send a live video stream to a recipient over its wireless network, the company said Friday.

The carrier -- which claimed that it will be the first in the United States to demonstrate the live video service -- said it will show off the technology at the Consumer Electronics Show next week in conjunction with Alcatel-Lucent and LG Electronics’ LG CU500v phone.

Cingular, which has 58.7 million subscribers, will deliver the service over its third-generation Universal Mobile Telephone System/High Speed Downlink Packet Access (UMTS/HSDPA) network and recently deployed Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) platform.
