Cingular Wireless Gets HBO Fare

Home Box Office cut a deal with Cingular Wireless to supply video content from The Sopranos and other programs to the mobile-phone company’s upcoming “Cingular Video” on-demand programming service for mobile phones.

The agreement is noteworthy, considering that HBO sister company Time Warner Cable plans to market mobile video programming through a partnership with Cingular rival Sprint Nextel Corp. and other cable operators next year.

Cingular didn’t say how long the video clips from HBO will be in length, but the company warned that some of the HBO Mobile content “is for mature audiences only.”

While the video content won’t be available until early next year, some downloadable content will be available to Cingular mobile-phone customers beginning Friday, including “Mob Lingo” from The Sopranos and Curb Your Enthusiasm “Curb-isms.”

Cingular will also offer ring tones from The Sopranos, Sex and the City, Rome, Deadwood and Six Feet Under, and graphics from select episodes of The Sopranos, Sex, Curb, Six Feet Under, Entourage, Rome and Deadwood.

And customers will be able to download games such as “The Sopranos Turnpike Trivia” and a Sex trivia game.
