Glenn Close will join the cast of FX’s The Shield.
This marks Close’s debut as a regular on a primetime series. She will play Capt. Monica Rawling, and her character will empower Michael Chiklis’ Det. Vic Mackey to enforce her controversial community policies, AP reported.
Perhaps best-known for her role in Fatal Attraction, other films Close has appeared in include Dangerous Liaisons, The Big Chill, The World According to Garp and Air Force One.
“Glenn is flat-out, hands-down one of the very best actresses on the planet,” Shield creator and executive producer Shawn Ryan told AP. “We think this is an extremely unique, dynamic character that shakes our Shield world upside-down over the course of the entire season.”
FX president of entertainment John Landgraf added, “As a great admirer of Glenn Close's work, I'm thrilled that she will be bringing her prodigious talents to FX and The Shield. Shawn Ryan has created an original and complex character, and we have great excitement about what Glenn will bring to her.”
