Turner Network Television’s summer breakout hi,t The Closer, will end its first season with an expanded 70-minute episode, officials said Thursday.
The series finale, titled “Something to Talk About,” is set to air Sept. 5 at 9 p.m.
“The Closer is a huge television success, ranking as ad-supported cable’s top new original series of the summer,” Steve Koonin, executive vice president and chief operating officer of TNT and TBS, said in a statement. “We are delighted to bring the first season of this top-notch show to a close by giving viewers even more of what they have come to love about the show.”
The Closer premiered June 13 with a 4.8 rating, delivering 5.2 million households, making it ad-supported cable’s top original scripted series telecast ever. Since its launch, the show has averaged a 4.4 rating for its first five episodes.
The Kyra Sedgwick vehicle has also consistently beat programming on the broadcast networks in head-to-head competition.
