CMC Dangles Digital Carrots

Comcast Media Center is pushing independent cable operators toward digital video, offering price breaks on transport services for the HITS Quantum service through the end of 2010.

With the promotion, new CMC customers can save more than 40% when they launch the HITS Quantum SD & HD bundle, comprising 280 digital video and audio services, including 23 HD channels. Existing HITS affiliates may add up to 280 digital and audio services to their current lineup without paying additional transport fees for the remainder of the year.

The promotion excludes carriage fees paid to the cable networks. The offer is valid on contracts signed by Dec. 1, 2010. Transport rates will be billed based on the regular rate card starting January 1, 2011, according to CMC.

"As the number of HD households grows, adding HD services is crucial to a cable operator's competitive position. HITS Quantum digital SD and HD services provide a cost-effective solution for reclaiming bandwidth and adding HD quickly," CMC COO Gary Traver said in a statement. "These incentives are designed to help cable operators get a head start on their 2011 plans and increase their net revenue potential."

CMC provides more info on the promotion at and will be exhibiting at the Independent Show in Baltimore July 25-27.
