CNN Digital Launches Dedicated VR Unit

CNNVR will cover major news in 360-degree video format

CNN Digital this week announced the launch of CNNVR, a new, dedicated “immersive journalism unit” and virtual reality platform that will cover major news events in the 360-degree format.

Coverage in that format included this view into the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

CNN said the unit will tap into teams around the globe, including New York,Atlanta, London, Hong Kong, San Francisco, Dubai, Johannesburg, Tokyo, and Beijing.

Early on, CNN’s VR/260 content will be offered via apps for iOS and Android, on browsers at, and support for headsets including the Samsung GearVR, Oculus Rift and Google Daydream.

CNN estimates that it has produced more than 50 news stories in VR/360 over the past year.
