CNN Forms Investigations Unit

Later this month, CNN will debut a long-form investigative series that will run each Saturday and Sunday.

The first episode will debut Jan. 20: an hour-long examination of the home-grown Muslim extremism surfacing in the United Kingdom.

The episodes will run under the banner CNN: Special Investigations Unit. The series will focus on current pressing issues, and it is designed to complement CNN Presents, which will specialize in longer-lead-time, multihour "event" programming such as last year's In the Footsteps of bin Laden. Four CNN Presents documentaries are on the schedule for 2007.

Special Investigations Unit will include reporters such as Christiane Amanpour, Anderson Cooper, Soledad O'Brien, medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta and correspondents John Roberts, John King, Candy Crowley, Drew Griffin and others. The first episode, The War Within, will be reported by Amanpour.

Both series are produced by CNN Productions.
