CNN Leads Cable News Sector with Obama Swearing In Ceremony

Network Finishes Ahead of FNC, MSNBC during Daytime, Primetime

CNN set the cable news pace with its coverage of the official swearing in of President Obama’s second term in office Sunday.

With its presentation of Obama’s ceremony on Jan. 20, CNN averaged 982,000 viewers from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to Nielsen data. That total included 287,000 adults 25 to 54.

Fox News Channel was second with 717,000 viewers, including 135,000 in the so-called news demo, while MSNBC third with 425,000 watchers, but second with 153,000 in the demo.

During primetime, CNN averaged 761,000 versus 630,000 for FNC and 245,000 for MSNBC. CNN tallied 171,000 news demo watchers, compared with 115,000 for MSNBC and 94,000 for FNC, according to Nielsen.
