CNN Loses Van Susteren, Gains Whitfield


The revolving door for television-news anchors spun rapidly Wednesday as
popular Cable News Network personality Greta Van Susteren jumped to competing
Fox News Channel.

Not to be outdone, CNN Wednesday signed NBC News correspondent Frederika
Whitfield to an anchor spot on the network.

Van Susteren, who was host of CNN's primetime talk show, The Point,
will fill FNC's 10 p.m. news void created when Paula Zahn bolted for CNN in

'We are delighted to have Greta join Fox News Channel, where she will
undoubtedly add depth to the highest-rated primetime lineup in cable news,' Fox
News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes said in a prepared statement.

A CNN spokeswoman would not comment on the circumstances surrounding Van
Susteren's departure, but she said the network 'wishes Greta the best.'

CNN sources said network reporter Kate Snow will anchor The Point
starting tonight and through the next several days until a replacement is

Meanwhile, Whitfield will join CNN from NBC News, where she served as an
Atlanta-based correspondent for NBC Nightly News and other programs for
the 'Peacock Network.'

She also worked as a morning and afternoon anchor, as well as an assignment

'Frederika is a determined journalist whose energy is only rivaled by her
passion to get the story,' CNN/U.S executive vice president and general manager
Sid Bedingfield said in a prepared statement.

'Her addition to our team is a testament to her hard work and to CNN's
dedication to providing excellent news coverage,' he added.
