Sumitomo Electric Lightwave has successfully installed its “FutureFLEX Air-Blown Fiber” infrastructure at Cable News Network’s Manhattan headquarters in the Time Warner Center.

The infrastructure is supporting broadcast-production operations at the 250,000-square-foot studio facilities for the network's American Morning and primetime lineup.

The technology enables CNN to respond to emerging high-bandwidth digital-broadcasting technologies, such as HD-capable applications, fiber-channel communications and standard-definition video, Sumitomo said.

FutureFLEX also facilitates the many immediate network moves, additions and changes inherent in broadcasting and production faster and more efficiently and cost-effectively than if a conventional cabling infrastructure were in place, the vendor added.
