CNN Special To Commemorate March On Washington

First Person Accounts Of Attendees Highlight 50th Anniversary Look At Iconic Civil Rights March

CNN will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the historic March On Washington with an Aug. 23 special, We Were There: The March On Washington – An Oral History, the network announced Thursday.

The one-hour special, hosted by CNN anchor Don Lemon, will feature interviews with civil rights leaders who attended the Aug. 28 March for Jobs and Freedom, including U.S. Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) (pictured) -- the only living member of the leaders of the “Big Six” civil rights organizations who spoke at the original event, said CNN officials.

Also featured in the special are U.S. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and singer/actor Harry Belefonte.  CNN will encore We Were There: The March on Washington – An Oral History on Aug. 25, said the network.
