Stephen Colbert will host a number of musical guests during his Comedy Central Christmas special tonight
The irreverent network is trumpeting the show’s arrival by saying a new American holiday tradition will be born, when viewers tune in the Nov. 23 premiere of A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All! at 10 p.m. (ET/PT).
The host of The Colbert Report will be joined in his upstate New York cabin by Elvis Costello, Feist, Toby Keith, John Legend, Willie Nelson and his fellow network cohort in faux news and self-absorbed commentary, Jon Stewart. Colbert will make duets the order of the one-hour musical special, including such ditties as Nelson’s “The Little Dealer Boy” and the Comedy Central hosts delivering a Chanukah song.
No doubt, Comedy Central’s holiday wish list includes big fat Nielsens under its tree: the network received an early gift when the Nov. 16 debut of Jeff Dunham’s Very Special Christmas Special averaged a record 6.6 million viewers.
Both The Colbert Report and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart enjoyed record-setting records during the network’s Indecision 2008 election coverage.
