Comcast Adds MAX Go, Live CNN And HLN To 'TV Everywhere' Bouquet

Comcast now offers MAX Go, HBO's authenticated online video service for Cinemax customers, as part of an expanded "TV Everywhere" pact with the premium programmer, and has launched live online streaming of Turner Broadcasting System's CNN and HLN news networks.

Comcast's Cinemax subscribers will have free, unlimited access to the streaming service at any time, on any computer over any high-speed Internet connection in the U.S. via as well as via iPad, iPhone, iPod touch and select Android devices.

In addition, the operator is making simulcasts of CNN and HLN's complete 24-hour networks available at Comcast subs also can access CNN programming through the CNN app for iPhone and iPod touch.

HBO introduced MAX Go first for Verizon FiOS TV subscribers in September 2010, adding mobile apps for the service in August of last year.

Comcast's addition of MAX Go falls under its recently expanded TV Everywhere agreement with HBO to encompass additional devices and services, including providing HBO Go on Xbox 360 game consoles. The agreement resolved certain "business issues" between the two parties, according to a source familiar with the deal.

MAX Go offers 700-plus hours of programming including movies and the adult-themed MAX After Dark series and new Cinemax originals, including Strike Back. As with HBO Go, the service lets customers create a "watchlist" to track bookmarked content and bonus content including behind-the-scenes extras, interviews and recaps.

MAX Go is accessible only in the U.S. and certain U.S. territories where a high-speed broadband connection is available. A minimum 3G connection is required for viewing on mobile devices.

Among other TV Everywhere content, Comcast launched WatchESPN earlier this month and is expected to become the first pay-TV provider to offer live and on-demand content from Disney's three children's cable networks.

Separately, earlier this week Comcast announced the Xfinity TV Player app for Android devices.

The Xfinity TV Player app, for devices with Android version 2.3 and later, provides access to almost 10,000 hours of video content over either a 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi connection. The Xfinity TV Player app is a separate download from the existing Xfinity TV app that is already available for Android.
