Comcast Completes Jersey Shore Upgrades

Comcast said it has wrapped up a series of service enhancements and upgrades along the Jersey Shore as customers set their return to the area over the hectic Memorial Day weekend.

In anticipation for the deluge, the operator said it has upgrades almost 500 miles of network infrastructure serving homes in the area, an increase to the 144 miles that were replaced last year in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.

In addition to offering its next-gen X1 platform in the region, the MSO said it has also expanded the rollout of its WiFi network to “thousands” of hotspots throughout the Jersey Shore alone. An MSO spokesperson noted that WiFi usage spiked at the Shore last summer, and that, nationally, it saw a nearly 55% boost in usage during the summer versus the colder months.

Comcast noted that seasonal and returning customers will also have the option to have self-installation kits delivered to their primary addresses and bring them to their Jersey Shore homes.

For those who decide to pick up that gear, the operator said it’s also staffing up and extending the hours of recently renovated and expanded customer service centers in several shore areas, including Avalon, Long Beach Island, Manahawkin, Ocean City, Pleasantville, Toms River, and Wildwood. For the first time, Comcast will also open its local centers on the Sunday and Monday of the Memorial Day weekend.
