Comcast Details Local VOD Views

Some local Comcast systems are beginning to publicize the top video-on-demand programs viewers are watching each week.

VOD data, tracked by Rentrak and other vendors, have traditionally been kept close to the vest by cable operators. Comcast publishes the pay VOD and free-VOD shows from a handful of systems on its corporate Web site, including Boston, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh. But most pay TV providers only share VOD data with program suppliers.

Comcast’s Oregon region first detailed its top VOD programs June 28. Spokeswoman Theresa Davis said Comcast Oregon plans to release the numbers to local media weekly, adding that other systems from the MSO’s Western division, including its Seattle and Utah markets, also plan to detail top local VOD programs.

Comcast’s Denver system detailed the top local systems for the week ending July 2 Wednesday.

Nickelodeon had three of the top five free kids’ programs on-demand -- Dora the Explorer: To the Treehouse, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Camping Episode and Zoey 101: Little Beach Party.

The Denver system also detailed the top pay movies on-demand and the top Music Choice videos on-demand. Paramount Home Video’s Shooter was the top movie of the week, while T-Pain’s “Buy U a Drank” was the top music video.
