Comcast Corp. wants to give Metropolitan Washington, D.C.-area cable pirates a second chance.
The MSO and local prosecutors will implement a cable-amnesty program Nov. 1-14, Comcast said Friday.
Anyone receiving unauthorized cable service can turn themselves in and become authorized, paying customers with no questions asked by calling 1-888-COMCAST or online (www.cabletheft.com).
Following the amnesty program, Comcast said it will run a house-by-house electronic audit of its systems to identify cable thieves, and information will be turned over to appropriate authorities for possible prosecution, with possible fines and jail time if convicted.
The MSO said it company received more than 8,000 calls and thousands of leads when it last offered amnesty in 2003.
