Comcast is marketing high-speed wireless data services, provided through wholesale agreements with Clearwire and Sprint Nextel, in 10 additional Eastern Division markets.
Comcast's High-Speed 2go, which the operator launched last year in Philadelphia, is now also available in Baltimore, Richmond, Washington, D.C., and the Pennsylvania markets of Harrisburg, York, Scranton, Reading, Lancaster, State College and Lebanon.
The MSO positions the wireless services as mobile extensions of its core wired broadband service. Comcast is offering two different data cards and service plans in the new markets: High-Speed 2go Nationwide (3G) service uses a 3G-only data card giving customers access to Sprint Nextel's nationwide 3G wireless network; and High-Speed 2go Nationwide Preferred (4G/3G) service, which taps Clearwire's metro WiMax network where available to provide 3 to 6 Mbps average download speeds supplemented by Sprint's national 3G network.
Both new and existing Comcast customers are eligible for special bundled pricing, with Comcast High-Speed Internet customers able to add 4G wireless or 3G wireless starting at $40 per month. More information is available at www.comcast.com/highspeed2go.
The Fast Pack Nationwide (3G) service, which starts at $54.99 per month, includes Comcast's 12 Mbps home Internet service; a free Wi-Fi router for mobility and extended coverage in the home; and nationwide 3G mobile network access. The Fast Pack Nationwide Preferred (4G/3G) service, at $69.99 per month, includes WiMax service in certain metro markets plus nationwide 3G mobile Internet access.
In addition, Comcast offers High-Speed 2go Metro (4G) service in some markets, including Philadelphia, which provides a 4G-only data card to give customers the fastest wireless service within the 4G metro coverage area. The bundle starts at $54.99 per month and includes Comcast's home Internet service with downstream speeds up to 12 Mbps.
Comcast's Eastern Division serves approximately 5.7 million residential and business customers across Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, DC. Based in Oaks, Pa., the division has more than 20,000 employees.
