Comcast Corp. will plunk down $8 million for a new service-assurance center
in Cherry Hill, N.J., the company announced Thursday.

The center, set for completion in July, will provide round-the-clock
technical support and preventative maintenance for the MSO's New Jersey cable
systems.

From the facility, technicians will monitor and troubleshoot power outages
and signal problems and direct field crews as they set about repairs.

It's part of a drive to increase service reliability in 2003.

The New Jersey system, which serves 1.3 million cable customers, will also
see boosts from an expansion of Comcast's Voorhees, N.J., call center, the
addition of a new vice president of customer care, 115 new customer account
executives and increased training for customer-service
supervisors.
