Comcast’s Eastern Division Hiring

Comcast said it will hire an additional 2,800 employees in its Eastern division, mainly to handle the increased customer volumes resulting from its successful triple-play offering.

The new employees will primarily work in jobs dealing directly with customers. The hires will boost Comcast’s employment rolls in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., to more than 17,000 workers.

According to a press release, Comcast said it began offering its phone product, Comcast Digital Voice, last spring, and it has already added 400,000 telephone customers. More than one in three new customers is taking the triple play, the company added.

“Our triple-play bundle has been a phenomenal success, and these additional hires will help us to keep pace with aggressive demand," Eastern division president Michael Doyle said in a prepared statement. “The new employees are for front-line, customer-facing positions, and they will help us to achieve our goal of delivering an excellent customer experience every time.”

This is the second big hiring binge Comcast has made in the market. Late last year, Comcast added 1,600 new jobs in the division. The division represents about 5.4 million of the MSO’s total of 24.1 million customers across the country.
