Charlie Thurston, president of Comcast Spotlight, Comcast Corp.’s ad-sales unit, has been named to The Advertising Council’s board of directors.
Comcast Spotlight committed a generous amount of advertising inventory to The Ad Council in 2004, and it recently announced that it has increased its commitment for 2005, the Ad Council said Monday.
More than 70 markets across Comcast's footprint have been running the Ad Council's public-service announcements since January 2004, and the MSO’s subscribers in Philadelphia can access the entire collection of PSAs on-demand.
“Comcast is committed to supporting The Ad Council's causes," Thurston said in a prepared statement. "Not only can we help raise awareness of issues among millions of viewers across the country, but we can help to inspire action in our communities by using advanced technologies that take public-service announcements to another level."
Ad Council president Peggy Conlon added, "We are thrilled to have the resources of Comcast Spotlight to help further our causes for social change. Our powerful messages have mobilized generations of Americans and, now, we can utilize the power of cable to deliver our messages to a new generation."
