Comcast Scrambling to Replace Intertainer

Comcast Corp. executives were working to replace Intertainer Inc.'s
video-on-demand content in five systems after the latter announced that it would
shut down service Oct. 23 unless it reached a deal with several Hollywood

Intertainer -- which has 147,000 subscribers to an
Internet delivery service, and which supplies VOD content to a smattering of
cable MSOs, including Comcast -- posted an impending closure notice on its Web
site (

) Thursday.

Intertainer said it was taking down the site 'until we can work out a fair
business model' with three studios -- AOL Time Warner Inc., Sony Pictures
Entertainment and Universal Studios -- the company sued Sept. 24.

Intertainer alleged that the Movielink studio joint venture will force it out
of business.

Comcast's logical alternatives are In Demand L.L.C. and
TVN Entertainment Corp., both of which provide content and distribution services
to other Comcast VOD systems.
