Upstart independently owned The Africa Channel Wednesday reached a long-term affiliation agreement with Comcast Corp.
Comcast will launch the network on its approximately 700,000-subscriber Atlanta system March 20, but the MSO has not committed to launch it on any other systems.
Network executives said, however, that the Comcast deal, along with its initial Cox Communications Inc. agreement, will get it to the 1 million-subscriber mark by the end of the second quarter.
“Since we began meeting with MSOs and local cable systems last year, there has been significant support and interest for the channel industrywide,” Africa Channel president Jacob Arback said in a prepared statement. “Our new agreement with Comcast and the upcoming Atlanta-system launch is yet another indicator of the value and diversity we bring to our carriage partners’ channel lineups and to the communities in which they operate.”
