As expected, Comcast Sports Group has netted a regional package of four live Women's Professional Soccer matches.
The deal, terms of which were not disclosed, kicks off with the June 7 contest between the FC Gold Pride and Chicago Red Stars at 8 p.m. (ET).
Matching up with clubs in the fledgling, seven-team, futbol circuit, Comcast RSN coverage extends to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, Comcast SportsNet New England, Comcast SportsNet Chicago and Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic. Additional live or tape-delayed coverage will also air on Comcast Sports Group channels in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Portland, Ore. and Sacramento.
The other games in the package: Boston Breakers vs. Washington Freedom, June 24 at 7 p.m.; Red Stars vs. Gold Pride, July 12 at 8 p.m.; and Freedom vs. Breakers, July 29 at 8 p.m.
The four Comcast Sports Group games combined with WPS's 20 national television games and four other regional telecasts, will place 28 of the league's 70 regular-season games on television during its rookie season.
Beyond game-day coverage of the four regional games, Comcast Sports Group networks will also feature re-airs of the games, interviews with WPS coaches and players on news and analysis programming, tune-in promotions during other sports programming and on-line video content on digital platforms.
Comcast Sports Group will also provide syndicated regional coverage of the WPS first round of the playoffs and WPS championship match in four markets: Bay Area, Chicago, New England and Philadelphia.
"We are excited to add Comcast Sports Group as a regional television partner of WPS for the second half of our season," said WPS commissioner Tonya Antonucci in a statement. "Comcast Sports Group is a fantastic platform for our fans to catch more WPS action."
