Comcast Corp. doesn't want to buy Vivendi Universal Entertainment, but it
does want to work with it.
On the heels of an announcement that Comcast would not bid on VUE, as widely
rumored, the Philadelphia-based MSO issued a short statement that it will
explore an alliance with VUE based on the two company's cable-channel
In a press release issued Thursday, Comcast stated that the alliance would
look at harnessing its cable channels -- including QVC, Comcast-Spectacor,
Comcast SportsNet, E! Entertainment Television, Style, The Golf Channel, Outdoor
Life Network and the G4 gaming network -- and VUE's cable-network assets and
The goal would be creating new channels and services.
That process will not interfere with parent Vivendi Universal's plans to sell
off VUE, according to the release.
