The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers announced that John Schanz, Comcast executive vice president of national engineering and technical operations, will serve as chair of the Cable-Tec Expo 2009 program committee.
Cable-Tec Expo, to be held this year Oct. 28-30 in Denver, is the largest event for the professional association.
SCTE moved Expo from its traditional June spot to be a part of the new Cable Connection Fall week in late October, which is also set to include the CTAM Summit and the Cable Center Hall of Fame Celebration.
Also Monday SCTE announced "early-bird registration" for Expo 2009, an offer available through May 1, which the organization said represents nearly a 4% savings over last year's lowest prices. SCTE members who register as early birds will save more than $400 compared with nonmembers who register on-site in Denver.
SCTE, which is marking its 40th anniversary this year, has more than 14,000 members in 68 chapters and meeting groups. The organization earlier this year appointed Mark Dzuban, a former executive at AT&T and Cedar Point Communications, as its president and CEO.
