Street-smart comic Dave Chappelle had them laughing and watching Wednesday
The Jan. 22 premiere of Chappelle's Show was the most-viewed series
debut among adults 18 through 49 in Comedy Central history.
The sketch-comedy half-hour attracted some 2.1 million viewers among the
aforementioned demo from 10:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. that night, according to Nielsen
Media Research data.
In another piece of encouraging news, Chappelle's Show grew its adult
18-through-49 audience from its South Park lead-in by 33 percent, making
it the only show premiere in Comedy's history to have built on that signature
series with that demo, network officials said.
The series pulled a 2.13 household rating. Overall, more than 2.5 million
persons watched the show -- the second-highest total viewership for a series
premiere in the network's history, trailing only the bow of the short-lived
That's My Bush in April 2001.
