Commerce Panel Vote Set for Adelstein

Jonathan Adelstein's nomination to serve on the Federal Communications
Commission is expected to gain approval from the Senate Commerce Committee
Tuesday, according to committee spokesman Andy Davis.

Adelstein, a 39-year-old aide to Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.),
was nominated by President Bush to fill the second Democratic seat at the
Republican-controlled FCC.

Davis said the committee was planning to meet in nonpublic executive session
Tuesday morning in a room near the Senate floor. The panel typically votes on
legislation and nominations in open session.

Adelstein breezed through his July 16 confirmation hearing. Davis did not
indicate when the full Senate would stage a confirmation vote.
