Conexant Debuts HD Chips for DVR Set-Tops

Conexant Systems Friday announced two video-decoder chips for set-top boxes with HD and digital-video-recording features.

The CX2427X dual-channel video-decoder chip can decode two HDTV programs simultaneously and support DVR applications on two TV sets.

The CX24500 is a single-channel video decoder targeted at lower-cost set tops with DVR functions.

The HDTV video-decoder chips provide two serial advanced technology attachment (SATA-2) interfaces to connect to hard drives and support MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC)/H.264 and VC-1 video compression standards.

Conexant said the CX2427X ($40 each in quantity) and CX24500 ($30 each in quantity) are sampling now. Volume production is scheduled for the third quarter of 2007.
