Conexant Rolls Out MPEG-2 Decoders

Conexant Systems Inc. is coming out with a new set of MPEG-2 (Moving Picture
Expert Group) decoders aimed at providing a common, flexible base for digital
set-top-box designs.

The "CX24153/4/6" decoders can be used in set-top boxes running a variety of
applications ranging from standard TV video to pay TV and interactive digital
services.

The decoders use a unified memory design that funnels all of the
memory-system requirements into a single, low-cost chip. To further cut costs,
Conexant has added analog-modem return-path software to the decoder's central
processor.

Other features include an integrated radio-frequency modulator and a Digital
Video Broadcast interface controller to cut the number of external components
needed to link the unit into a video system.
