Consolidated Eyes IPTV for North Pittsburgh

Rural local exchange company Consolidated Communications Holdings said it plans a first-quarter launch for IPTV service in the areas served by North Pittsburgh Systems. Consolidated completed the previously announced acquisition of North Pittsburgh Systems for approximately $362.6 million on Dec. 31.

The acquired company will operate in Pennsylvania under the Consolidated Communications brand name.

"We have said from the start that North Pittsburgh has a strong network that, when coupled with Consolidated's back office platforms and technical experience, can be leveraged to roll out enhanced broadband services," Consolidated president and CEO Bob Currey said, in a prepared statement.

In the North Pittsburgh area, Consolidated expects to pass approximately 12,000 homes by the end of the first quarter and 34,000 by the end of 2008.

Consolidated provides voice, data and video services to residential and business customers in Illinois, Texas and Pennsylvania. The telco has a total of 11,100 IPTV subscribers.
