Billing and information-systems supplier Convergys Corp. has formed a
strategic alliance with another technology vendor that will allow the biller's
cable-system customers to send billing and other service alerts to subscribers
on devices such as pagers and personal digital assistants.
Convergys will use technology from PAR3 Communications, which provides
'event-notification solutions' to businesses such as Northwest Airlines Corp.
and Puget Sound Energy.
Using the technology, Convergys' customers will be able to proactively notify
cable subscribers of planned service interruptions, new products and services,
contract status and reminders regarding spending limits on prepaid services such
The information can be delivered to the consumer's fax, telephone, electronic
mail, pager or other wireless devices.
The technology is already in use in the cable industry. The companies said
Charter Communications Inc. utilized 'Convergys Interactive Alerts' to notify
customers during the transition of its Excite@Home Corp. customers to the
operator's own Pipeline service.
In other billing news, Time Warner Cable Houston has added CSG Systems
International Inc.'s 'Workforce Express' product.
The work-force-management tool will help the operator to provide turn-by-turn
directions to field technicians to speed completion of their repair and
installation calls to the systems' 650,000 customers.
