Cooper will host live coverage of the New Year’s Eve celebration at New York City’s Times Square from 11 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. (ET). Scheduled guests at CNN’s Times Square location include New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the Grammy-nominated rock band Green Day. The show also will offer live satellite feeds to a Celine Dion concert at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, a Jerry Jeff Walker performance at Gilley’s in Dallas and a Roots’ performance at Electric Factory in Philadelphia. The special will feature live uplinks to parties around the country.
At 7 p.m. that night, Cooper will anchor a special edition of his regularly scheduled program under the title Anderson Cooper 366, as he looks back on the 366 days of 2004 with interviews from CNN correspondents and contributors on the stories of the year. CNN senior correspondent Christiane Amanpour will report on Saddam Hussein’s first day in court, Yassar Arafat’s death and the crisis in Sudan. Senior White House correspondent John King and senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin examine the political and legal battles of 2004. Cooper will conclude matters with a retrospective of the year in terms of pop culture and those who lost their lives.
