Fox Sports en Español has booted itself to the top spot on Nielsen Media Research’s Spanish-language cable live-sports-programming list.
South American soccer competition Copa Toyota Libertadores, which the network has covered since the end of January, as well as InterLiga -- a two-week Copa Toyota Libertadores qualifying tournament for Mexican club teams, held in January -- delivered the network’s highest average-household-coverage ratings ever.
Fox Sports en Español posted an 8.38 coverage-area rating Jan. 21 and an 8.64 Jan. 28 for its InterLiga coverage.
As for Copa Toyota Libertadores, the network said first-round ratings are up 36% compared with the 2003 tournament on household delivery and 24% for adults 18-49.
“This competition attracts a large following in the United States because the teams represented are simply the best in Latin America and Mexico, and they play at a world-class level of soccer,” Fox Sports en Español senior vice president of advertising sales Tom Maney said in a prepared statement.
