Cablevision Systems Corp. suffered a setback in its campaign to block the National Football League’s New York Jets from building a new stadium on Manhattan’s West Side, as the New York State Supreme Court Thursday dismissed a lawsuit that the company’s Madison Square Garden unit had filed against the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority earlier this year.
MSG had sued the MTA, which controls the land for the stadium site, after the MTA passed on MSG’s proposal to build a residential facility on the site and accepted a proposal from the Jets. The stadium threatens to drain revenue from Cablevision’s nearby Madison Square Garden arena.
MSG signaled that it would appeal the decision.
“We do not believe the MTA board has the right to cut an inside deal, and we are highly confident that this will be overturned on appeal,” MSG said in a prepared statement.
