Court TV is continuing its fight to allow cameras in New York State trial courts.
The network said Wednesday that it will appeal the June 22 decision from the New York State Supreme Court that upheld the state’s ban.
Court TV is seeking a declaratory judgment that the law is unconstitutional.
The suit was originally filed in Supreme Court of New York County Sept. 5, 2001. Boies, Schiller & Flexner is representing Court TV, and founding partner David Boies is overseeing matters.
“Our state court judges should be treated no differently than those in most states who have the discretion to permit electronic media to cover trials,” Court TV chairman and CEO Henry Schleiff said in a prepared statement. “Moreover, if transparency is fundamental to democracy, then the public is entitled to greater access to one of the hallmarks of democracy -- our judicial system.”
