Who wrote those chapters?
The answer to that and other questions will come in February when Court TV, author’s social network Gather and Borders award a publishing contract to the next great crime writer.
Built to coincide with the network’s series Murder by the Book, “The Court TV Search for the Next Great Crime Writer Contest” will give one Gather member a chance to win a publishing and excusive distribution contract with Borders, plus a $5,000 cash advance.
From Oct. 1 through Nov. 11, aspiring mystery/crime writers can submit a full-length fiction manuscript to firstname.lastname@example.org for consideration.
Throughout the contest period, authors will post their first chapters to courttv.gather.com. From Nov. 15 through Dec. 9, reading and ratings will begin with 25 writers --15 based on “10” ratings from Gather members, and 10 selected by the Gather editorial team -- advancing to the competition’s next round.
The 25 semifinalists, announced Dec. 13, will then post their second chapters, and the
Gather community and editorial team will narrow the pool down to five finalists, who will be announced Jan. 7, 2008. From there, the grand prize winner will be determined by a judging panel comprising authors David Baldacci, Sandra Brown and Harlan Coben; Borders’ buyers Bill Adams and Cathy Lashinsky; Gather founder and CEO Tom Gerace; and Court TV EVP current programming and specials Ed Hersh.
The grand prize winner is scheduled to be announced on or around Feb. 4, the date Court is scheduled to air the last episode of Murder by the Book.
