Cox Adds Second VOD Vendor

Cox Communications Inc. has added SeaChange International Inc. as a second video-on-demand-server vendor, saying it will deploy SeaChange servers and "VODLink" technology in "select" systems early next year.

The SeaChange gear is headed for Cox's Motorola Inc. markets, as SeaChange said in a release that its equipment will work with Motorola Broadband Communications Sector's "DCT-1000," "1200," "2000," "2500" and "5100" set-top boxes.

"For Cox, VODLink technology provides us with the ability to quickly deploy multiple types of on-demand content, including movies, subscription on-demand services and more," said John Hildebrand, vice president of multimedia technology for Cox, in a prepared statement.

At the same time, Concurrent Computer Corp. said it has added a fifth Cox market. The server vendor has already launched in Cox's San Diego, Oklahoma City, Las Vegas and Hampton Roads, Va., markets.
