Cox Communications Inc. said it has reached an agreement to purchase 35,000 cable subscribers in Arizona from CableAmerica Corp. for an undisclosed sum.
The deal is expected to close by midyear.
In a prepared statement, Cox said the CableAmerica systems are located in Mesa, Florence, Wickenburg, Queen Creek, Coolidge and Gila Bend, Maricopa and Pinal counties, and they are near Cox’s existing cluster with 2 million subscribers in Phoenix and southern Arizona.
CableAmerica is the 40th-largest MSO in the country, and it has about 75,000 subscribers in three states. The company has been operating in Arizona since 1982.
The deal comes a few months after Cox agreed to sell 940,000 subscribers in secondary markets in several states to Cebridge Connections. While terms were not disclosed on that deal, estimates are that it was worth about $2.3 billion. The Cebridge deal is expected to close in the second quarter.
