Cox, Cablevision Load Starz 3D VOD

Cox Communications and Cablevision Systems now offer a handful of 3D video-on-demand titles from Starz Entertainment, available to subscribers with a Starz subscription and a compatible 3DTV.

That brings Starz to six affiliates that offer its 3D VOD titles, following launches earlier this year by Comcast, Verizon FiOS TV, AT&T U-verse TV and Blue Ridge Communications.

Not many consumers, however, actually have 3D-compatible television sets required to view 3D programming. An estimated 3.6 million 3DTVs will ship in the U.S. in 2011, according to the Consumer Electronics Association's July reforecast (up from its projection in January of 1.9 million units).

Starz's VOD lineup currently includes: Alice in Wonderland, Disney's A Christmas Carol, Toy Story 3 and Tangled from Disney; Sony's Green Hornet; and Step Up 3 and Resident Evil: Afterlife.

Coming in the next few weeks are Tron: Legacy and Gnomeo & Juliet, followed in early 2012 by Mars Needs Moms, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Cars 2 and The Smurfs.
