Following its initial release on the Apple iPad in August, Cox Communications’ new tablet-focused app, Contour, has been extended to select Android-powered tablets, including the Google Nexus and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, Tab 3 and Note tablets.
Contour currently offers access to more than 6,000 on-demand choices, supports in-home streaming of more than 100 linear TV channels, and bakes in a recommendation engine from Think Analytics that supports up to eight unique user profiles. The app also aggregates TV Everywhere apps from individual networks supported by Cox, including HBO go, Watch ESPN, and Starz Play, among others.
The app complements Cox’s Contour guide for a souped-up, Cisco Systems-made whole-home HD-DVR with 2 terabytes of storage that can record up to six shows at the same time. Cox subs can also use the Contour tablet app to remotely manage the DVR.
Cox said customer views of content online and on mobile devices more than doubled last quarter versus the prior-year period. It also pointed to a study that found that more than half its customer homes watch streamed video on a smartphone or tablet, with nearly 20% doing so on an Android-powered device.

"Having TV content accessible on a second screen truly enhances and personalizes the TV experience. Android users are now able to use the interface to discover content, set DVR recordings as well as start viewing shows on their device and switch over to TV with just a touch."
Cox developed Contour in partnership with NDS (now part of Cisco Systems).
