Internet Photonics Inc. announced that Cox Communications Inc. will use its Gigabit Ethernet technology to roll out video-on-demand in its Omaha, Neb., system, which passes 330,000 homes.
IP said it now serves 12 million VOD homes across its MSO base, which includes Adelphia Communications Corp., Cablevision Systems Corp., Cox Communications Inc. and Buckeye Cablevision Inc.
Cox will deploy IP's "LightStack MX," a dense-wave-division-multiplexing transport platform, which will allow the operator to cut its VOD-transport costs per stream in half, the vendor said.
IP also will deploy its "LightHandler" product, an optical add/drop multiplexing and amplification system, which supports 40 DWDM wavelengths over a single fiber strand. And Cox is taking IP's "LightStack NCS" service-management system.
