Cox Mobilizes In New England, Cleveland

Cox Communications on Tuesday officially launched its "Unbelievably Fair" branded mobile phone and Internet service across the state of Rhode Island as well as its service areas in Connecticut and Cleveland, Ohio.

Cox Wireless launched in Hampton Roads, Va., Omaha, Neb., and Orange County, Calif., last fall, and rolled out in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Okla., in late March.

The cable company -- which initially is offering the voice and 3G data services in a wholesale agreement with Sprint Nextel -- has not disclosed how many wireless subscribers it has. Cox expects to bring wireless service to more than 50% of its footprint in 2011.

The Cox Wireless individual plans range from $39.99 per month for 450 minutes to $99.99 per month for unlimited voice, text and Web. The MSO is emphasizing the MoneyBack Minutes feature of its plans, which provide cash back to customers for unused minutes each month.

Cox also offers a free upgrade to customers who bundle two or more Cox services, such as a free premium channel or Movie Pak, high speed Internet upgrade, free unlimited long distance with Cox Digital Telephone service or earlier unlimited weeknight calling on Cox Wireless.
