Cox: Motorola Preferred Modem Vendor

Cox Communications Inc. customers will be surfing the high-speed Internet
with Motorola Broadband Communications Sector modems.

The Atlanta-based MSO has named Motorola as a preferred vendor for cable
modems, tapping its 'SURFboard SB4200' and 'SB4220' units for its supply.

Motorola has been supplying modems to Cox since 1999, but the announcement
means that the Horsham, Pa.-based consumer-electronics maker now has an inside
track as Cox upgrades to next-generation Data Over Cable Service Interface
Specification 1.1 systems.

'By incorporating the latest DOCSIS 1.1 technology with Motorola's SB4200 and
SB4220 cable modems, we'll be able to more effectively satisfy growing customer
demand for reliable, high-speed Internet access,' said Jay Rolls, Cox's vice
president of data engineering, in a release.

'We are very pleased to expand our relationship with Motorola by naming them
as one of our approved next-generation cable-modem suppliers,' he
added.
