Cox Offers New Local Weather Service In Oklahoma City

Cox Communications in Oklahoma City, Okla., is offering FirstAlert Weather 24/7, a partnership between the city’s ABC affiliate and AccuWeather, on its digital tier, officials said Wednesday.

Hearst-Argyle Television's KOCO-TV and AccuWeather created the around-the-clock digital weather channel to serve the Oklahoma City market. It is available to viewers over the air on KOCO-DT channel 5.2, as well as on Cox digital cable channel 222.

"AccuWeather is pleased to welcome KOCO 5 as an important partner to our Local AccuWeather Channel family," Jim Candor, AccuWeather’s senior vice president of new media, said in a statement. "AccuWeather provides partner stations like KOCO the platform and complementary content they need to start their own continuous weather stations supported by hundreds of national, regional, and special interest weather videos as well as the best weather data and forecasts available anywhere."

The Local AccuWeather Channel currently airs on the digital tier of cable systems in 40 markets throughout the country. Included in the current market station group are all ABC owned-and-operated stations, plus CBS, Fox, ABC, and NBC affiliates throughout the nation. Local AccuWeather Channel is soon to be in 65 broadcast markets.
