Cox Communications will launch caller ID on the TV in its Rhode Island division on May 18, a feature that lets customers identify incoming callers without getting off the living-room sofa.
Caller ID to the TV is available to Cox customers who subscribe to both Cox Digital Telephone with Caller ID and Cox Digital Cable, for no additional charge.
The cable operator last fall said it would widely expand the capability in 2009, with plans to make it available to more than 90% of eligible customers this year. Other markets Cox offers the feature include Oklahoma City.
"Caller ID to the TV is an example of our commitment to the continued evolution and convergence of our communications platforms," Cox vice president of marketing Doreen Studley said in a statement. "Our customers prefer to bundle voice, Internet and video services from one trusted provider... They want these services to work together to enhance their lives."
Cox claims to be the eighth-largest phone company in the U.S., with more than 3 million residential and business telephone customers.
