Cox Rings Up Record No. of Phone Subscribers

Cox Communications added approximately 372,000 new residential telephone subscribers in the past 12 months, to 2.1 million, marking a year-over-year increase of more than 21%.

The cable operator said the voice-over-Internet-protocol additions marked a company record.

As of the end of the first quarter of 2007, Cox also reported: 5.5 million basic-video subscribers, up 0.9%; 2.9 million digital-cable subscribers, up 13.2%; 3.5 million high-speed-Internet subscribers, a gain of 15.2%; 3.6 million bundled customers, up 13.3%; 5.9 million total residential-customer relationships, growth of 2.3%; and 470,000 nonvideo residential customers, 20% growth.

“For every video customer the phone companies have connected to their new video services in our footprint in the past year, we've connected more than 50 phone subs,” chief marketing officer Joe Rooney said in a prepared statement.
