Cox Communications said Thursday that it launched video-on-demand programming on its Gainesville/Ocala and Pensacola/Fort Walton, Fla., systems.
The deployment is notable, considering most other major cable operators began offering VOD service more than five years ago.
Cox spokeswoman Erin Lambremont said the company still doesn’t offer VOD programming in Arizona, one of its core system clusters. She said Cox has been more focused on rolling out digital phone service on its cable systems, including those in Florida and Arizona.
Cox’s VOD offering, branded “On Demand,” contains 5,000 titles. Markets where the service is available include Greater Louisiana; Cleveland; Roanoke, Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia.
