Less than two months after its launch, Cox Communications Inc.'s Las Vegas
system said it surpassed the 1,000 mark in high-definition-TV subscriptions.

Cox launched the service July 1, with subscribers being charged $10.15 per
month to rent HDTV digital set-top boxes and remote controls.

The operator offers the local CBS and PBS affiliate in HDTV, as well as two
Home Box Office channels and two Showtime channels. Discovery HD Theater is
available for a separate $5-per-month fee.

Last week, newly-named Discovery Networks U.S. new-media president John Ford
said 80 percent of Cox's HDTV subscribers were taking Discovery HD Theater.

Cox said it will add more HDTV channels as they become available, including
the ABC TV affiliate in Las Vegas.
