Cox Communications Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. have joined the Multimedia Over Coax Alliance (MoCA).
MoCA was founded in 2004 by Comcast Corp., EchoStar Communications Corp., Entropic Communications Inc., Cisco Systems Inc.’s Linksys division, Motorola Inc., Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. (Panasonic), RadioShack Corp. and Toshiba Corp.
“MoCA will give our customers more options to enjoy digital entertainment wherever and whenever they like in their home,” Cox vice president of multimedia technology John Hildebrand said in a prepared statement. “Service providers can take advantage of MoCA technology to provide more services and increase the value of their offerings.”
Verizon executive director, network-technology organization Brian Whitton added, “In the home, technologies such as MoCA can complement the highly advanced FiOS data, video and voice services offered by Verizon's all-fiber network. Verizon looks forward to working with MoCA to ensure that emerging premises technologies will meet the needs of our customers today, as well as in the future.”
