Crawford Communications Inc.’s Crawford Satellite Services unit said Wednesday that it has signed a multiyear agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense - Third Army Public Affairs.
Under terms of the deal, Crawford will provide turnkey satellite services for the Digital Video and Imagery Distribution System, which brings video, imagery and print products from public-affairs units in Iraq and Afghanistan to U.S. and international media outlets.
Crawford hired media-liaison personnel, each assigned to different regions in the United States, to assist the media in acquiring content and images from a secure Web site (www.dvidshub.net).
The vendor’s digital asset-management system, “ENCOMPASS,” offers the DVIDS project tapeless redundant content storage, proxy creation, retrieval and distribution. Other Crawford services include video editing, office space and additional personnel.
“We have assembled an excellent combination of technical and public-relations people to offer the Third U.S. Army’s content to the media in real time via satellite, fiber and the Internet,” said Ed Deckert, director of Crawford’s Teleport operations, in a prepared statement.
